Every day during summer and weekends in September
The home at Bjerkebæk can only be experienced as part of a guided tour. Join a guide inside and learn about Sigrid Undset, her life and her writing.
Undset lived at Bjerkebæk with her three children, and it was here that she wrote the books that earned her the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Gain insight into her life as a mother, author, public debater, Catholic and gardener. You will also see the writing desk in the living room at Røssum, where she wrote Kristin Lavransdatter.
The author’s home is filled with her extensive book collection, as well as the furniture, art and objects she surrounded herself with – all of which make the home feel vivid and personal.
This year, the guided tours highlight Sigrid Undset’s fascination with the Middle Ages and the thorough work she undertook to understand the period she wrote about. She drew inspiration from places such as Gudbrandsdal and the pilgrimage route to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim – influences that are also reflected in her writing.
